What should I wear for my cardiac test?

Comfortable or loose fitting clothing is recommended. Some cardiac investigations require access to the chest to correctly position ECG electrodes or perform imaging.

For an exercise-based test, comfortable clothing and suitable walking or running shoes are recommended.

How long will my appointment take?

Appointment times vary depending on the investigation being performed. Our reception staff can advise you of the expected duration when your appointment is made.

Can I take my usual medications before my test?

This depends on the investigation and the reason it has been requested.

Please follow any instructions provided when your appointment is made. If you are unsure whether you should take a medication before your test, contact our reception team before your appointment.

It is non-invasive and does not use ionising radiation.

What happens during an exercise stress test?

An exercise stress test assesses your heart’s response to physical activity. ECG electrodes are placed on your chest and your heart rhythm and blood pressure are monitored while you exercise under supervision.

The exact procedure depends on the investigation requested.

A Holter monitor is a small portable ECG monitor that continuously records your heart rhythm while you go about your usual daily activities.

You will receive instructions about wearing and returning the monitor when it is fitted.

What is ambulatory blood pressure monitoring?

This provides your doctor with information about how your blood pressure varies throughout the day and night.

When will my doctor receive my results?

After your investigation has been reviewed and reported, the report is sent electronically to your referring doctor.

If you need to discuss the findings or what they mean for your treatment, please speak with your treating doctor.
